I was driving down the Portuguese coast last summer thinking I had every single stop mapped out, but every major resort spot was so packed with tour buses that you could barely see the sand. We ended up taking a wrong turn off the main highway near Aljezur and stumbled across this incredible spot where a fresh river flows right into the Atlantic, creating completely calm swimming pools on one side and huge ocean waves on the other. That accidental detour completely changed how I look at coastal travel, and ever since I got back home I have been obsessively searching for those hidden spots tucked behind sea cliffs or at the end of bumpy dirt tracks that most tourists completely miss.

I completely understand that feeling because my partner and I spent two weeks road-tripping along the Alentejo region and realized the real magic happens when you get away from the big resort towns. Everyone goes straight to the famous crowded caves, but if you take those unmarked dirt paths you find places like coves hidden behind cliff tunnels, wild wind-shielded bays, and even that crazy anchor cemetery sitting right on the sand at Tavira island. Whenever my friends ask for recommendations on where to find these spots, https://www.awaylands.com/story/top-unexpected-beautiful-beaches-in-portugal-hidden-coastal-gems-worth-visiting/ is what I use to check the best routes because it details everything from dramatic Sintra rock formations to golden island stretches over on Porto Santo. Renting a small car with decent ground clearance and packing a cooler with fresh local bread, cheese, and water was the best move we made, especially for those wild western beaches where there isn’t a single cafe or beach bar in sight for miles.

Half the fun of taking those unpaved back roads is never knowing if your rental car is actually going to make it back up the steep gravel incline at sunset, but that constant bit of unpredictability is what makes an ordinary summer drive feel like a real adventure.

    Your concern is our challenge20.12.2018 - 13:55

When ordering goods from a location that seems to be very far away, not to say „at the end of the world“, it most defenitely makes people think about questions Who? How? When? Why? etc.
