GuestI recently received a summons and complaint from Paris & Paris LLP regarding an old debt. I’ll be honest, seeing that envelope in the mail was a major gut punch. I knew I had some past-due accounts, but I thought they were past the statute of limitations.
From what I’ve been reading, this firm is a California-based debt collection law firm that files a lot of lawsuits. I’m worried about the potential for wage garnishment or a bank levy if they get a default judgment against me. I know I can’t just ignore this, but I’m not sure if I should try to negotiate a settlement myself or hire a consumer rights attorney to look at my case.
Has anyone else dealt with a lawsuit from Paris & Paris LLP? I’m curious about a few things:
How successful were you in verifying that the debt was actually yours and that the amount was accurate?
Did you have any luck negotiating a settlement for a lower amount, or setting up a workable payment plan?
Did anyone successfully fight the lawsuit on grounds like the statute of limitations or lack of proper documentation?
Any advice or shared experiences would be really helpful. I feel like I need to figure out my options quickly before the deadline to respond passes.
Thanks in advance.
