Bertha HoggarthGuestI’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been completely neglecting my car’s maintenance lately, and I had a bit of a wake-up call yesterday when I noticed the brake pedal felt much softer than usual and the car took longer to stop than I was comfortable with. I’ve been hearing a faint grinding noise for a few weeks now and I just kept turning up the radio to ignore it, which is incredibly stupid in hindsight because I know brakes are one of those things you absolutely cannot compromise on. I had a close call at a junction where I had to brake harder than expected and the car just didn’t respond the way it should have, which honestly scared me enough to finally stop procrastinating and get this sorted properly. I’ve been looking into options for a proper brake pad replacement and it seems like there are a few different routes I could take – I could go to the dealer and pay a premium, find an independent garage that might be cheaper but I’m not sure about the quality, or even go with a mobile service that comes to my place which sounds super convenient . I’m leaning toward finding a specialist that uses quality parts and actually takes the time to do the job properly, because this is one area where I really don’t want to cut corners. Has anyone else been in this situation where they’ve left their brakes too long and ended up regretting it, or am I the only one who’s been this irresponsible? I’d really appreciate some advice on what to look for when choosing a place to do the work, and whether I should be replacing the rotors too or if just pads will be enough at this stage.
