GuestI’m hoping someone here has been through this and can tell me what actually worked. A few months ago I started getting calls from National Credit Systems about a move out balance from an apartment I left back in 2021. I didn’t even recognize the amount at first, and when I asked for something in writing proving I owed it, they just kept calling instead of sending anything.
It got worse from there. They call me several times a day, including before 8am and past 9pm. I told them clearly to stop calling my job because my supervisor was starting to ask questions, and they called my workplace again two days later. One rep even told me they could have my wages garnished and that I could be arrested if I didn’t pay. That scared me until I looked into it and realized they can’t just do that without a judgment.
I sent a written dispute asking them to validate the debt and they still haven’t sent me proper proof. I found this page that goes over the exact tactics they use and what your rights are under federal law, and a lot of what I experienced is on that list. I’m not sure if I should send a cease and desist letter or just talk to a consumer attorney since consultations seem to be free for this kind of thing.
If you dealt with them, what finally made them stop? Did disputing it or getting a lawyer help?
